The Virginia Archives Research Services known as The Library of Virginia provides access to records of Virginia while taking steps to preserve them. The Visitor Guide gives hours, directions, information about tours, etc. Their collections includes newspaper, government records, military records, personal papers, family bibles, genealogies, church and cemetery records, business records and more. A searchable catalog called Archives and Manuscripts Catalog is maintained online. Services for patrons who are unable to visit the library include interlibrary loan and ordering materials online or through the mail.

    The web site also contains an online catalog to their massive genealogy collection. Local, state, and country records have been gathered throughout the world.
