Genealogy Records of Bronx County, New York
Bronx County was created Apr. 19, 1912 from New York County.

Archives

The New York State Archives is a wonderful resource for original records. This archives includes early vital records, military records, court records, probate records, and Naturalizations records. Research Services include a research room, assistance to remote users via e-mail and phone, interlibrary loan and the sale of copies of many of their records. The best way to begin at the archives is to use the online catalog called Excelsior. When I searched for a town where my ancestors lived, four titles came up; three were church records and one was the 1855 census for that area. The list included call numbers and where a copy may be found. I selected a church record and brought up a report that fully described the book. I learned it included baptized children, a register of marriages and a register of deaths. What a delight!

Also included on the site is a directory of associations, university libraries, and societies throughout the state of New York which gives address and phone numbers, even email address for repositories close our ancestral homes.
