     * An Anne Bartlet of Amesbury married Nov. 22, 1704 [Amesbury records], Joseph4 Colby (John3 John2 Anthony1), of Amesbury. A Mary Bartlett married May 30, 1700 [Haverhill records], John Stevens, Jr., 2d wife.
The record states that he embarked at Southampton, 1638, aged 37, with wife Ann, 32, sister dorothy, 20, and five chldren under 10 years old. This would give his birth 1601, and her 1606; but the marriage record makes them both 26 in 1629. [Genealogical Register, 1893, page 135]. Her age given in her will also makes her birth in 1603. The wife of Christopher Batt has been given "Ann Toppan, sister of Abraham Toppan." This error probably arose fromt he fact that Abraham Toppan's son married Ann Batt's daughter.      From the Biley will [page 62], and other documents, it is evident that Christopher Batt and Henry Biley of both Salisburys were cousins.      It appears that Nicholas Batt, an early settler of Newbury, who had 3 daughters was not a brother of Christopher.
John Hall of London in 1664-5, speaks of receiving a letter from Mrs. Batt, probably widow of Christopher and in 1669 of "cosen Thomas Batt," perhaps the one in England.
     * The order is uncertain for the births of some of the children. Five seem to have been born 1630-1638.
Ann Batt mentions her grandson, Paul Batt and Timonthy Batt in her will in 1679.

Savage gives John Bickford of Dover [Oyster River, now Durham], in 1647; had sons John, Joseph, and Thomas. It is possible that Samuel was also a son of the first John; but we have found no proof of such relationship. Savage also states taht the second John married Temperance, and Thomas of Durham married Bridget, both daughters of Wm. Furber. He gives 3 chldren of John and Temperance, born 1660-1672; but at Exeter is a will of John Bickford, Sen., of Oyster River, Feb. 12, 1685; Oct. 7, 1697; which mentions wife Temperance, but no children; also a will of Thomas Bickford, 1706, which mentions wife Bridget and several children.
