Vital Records |
1852-1855
Adams Co., PA Birth Records and Death Records
from 1852-1855
In the early 1850's the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
passed a law that all birth and death records should be kept in every
county. These started in 1852 and then the law was repealed and they
ceased to be kept about 1854. Occasionally a county will even have
marriage records for this short period of time
While every county kept these records, many of them have not
been preserved. It seems that the court houses or county governments had a
choice of whether they would like to keep them or send them to the State
Archives. So, some will be found in the County County House and some in
the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission Archives, which was
formerly the State Archives.
The Birth and Death Records for Adams County are
available by writing to calling the
Adams County Courthouse
(717) 334-6781.
111-117 Baltimore Street
Gettysburg, PA 17325
For Adams County,
the County Courthouse also has birth and death records from 1893-1905.
