You can START your Free Family Tree Database today!

I have exciting NEWS!  There is a wonderful place on the internet to build your Family Tree and it is FREE!  You can start today, right now. It is so easy.

Just start with what you know. I started with my name and my parents names. If you are young, you may need to add your grandparents name. You don't even have to know exact dates. Don't worry about the missing information because the software at Ancestry.com will start using the information you entered to search for documents pertaining to your ancestors. It will find much of the information you are lacking.

When I entered my information, I noticed a couple of green arrows chasing each other around in a circle. That meant Ancestry's search engine was using the information I entered to search for documents that will likely contain information about my ancestors. One of the census records it found was for my grandmother. This census told me that she was a stenographer for a chiropractor.  I didn't know she knew shorthand. What a enjoyable piece of information! I say THANK GOODNESS for this Free Family Tree.

As documents are found, you have the opportunity to examine the document. If the document contains information about your ancestor, simply click the "attach" button. For those documents that do not pertain to your ancestors, click the ignore button. I have found that most of the time the documents Ancestry finds do pertain to my ancestors. That is part of what makes this Free Family Tree so enjoyable.

This software will find information about your ancestors too! You can simply begin and you do not have to contact your whole family – Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Grandparents – to learn everything that they know, although that is still a good practice so that details about current family members can be preserved. This software is so exciting because it allows you to invite those family member to add to your family tree. They can actually add their stories and pictures directly into the family tree which is a lot easier than visiting each one, writing down what they know and then transcribing it into your computer. Let them get excited too and add their stories and pictures directly to the Ancestry's free family tree. Then this family tree will be available for all the family to enjoy.

Once you've examined all the documents Ancestry found, you can start searching directly for other types of records.  Start at a particular person’s page in your tree and clicking on the ‘Search for historical records’ link. It pre-populates the search fields and saves you from re-typing all of the information you’ve already collected.

I, for one am grateful for this wonderful tool that has helped me build my family tree in a wonderful and exciting way. I know you will enjoy it too. This is a great way to share your family history with those you love.

Get started today!

Until next time, I am Donna K. Clark, your AncestorSpy guide.
