Family Histories

I always check family histories before I go to the actual records because they contain a large number of facts and clues. Some are well documented and others have no documentation. But even those without documentation contain a lot of true facts. If it is documented, I check out enough of the references to verify the accuracy. If there is no documentation, then I consider the family history to be all clues and so I proceed to document the facts. In any case family history save a great deal of time and usually money.

Another site to help you with surname searches, especially if the surname can have other meanings such as Street, Couch, Brown, etc. is CinnamonToast Genealogy Explorer. The web master of this website stores surnames in a special field that contains only surnames. There for if you are searching for the surname of Park, you will only find the word Park if it is a surname. This is a wonderful tool.
